In order:
1. You decide to purchase the build
2. Get Jon's address
3. Order the parts and ship them to Jon (preferably from qualified resellers to maintain manufacturer warranties, typically Amazon and Newegg are safe, don't know about other sites)
4. I pay Paragon for his card and he ships it to Jon
5. Swift buys you Win 10?
6. Jon builds the doobly-do
7. Jon drives the doohickey to you
8. ???
9. Profit!

If Swift is buying win 10, all I really need to know is Jon's mailing address

TDP so low on that i3. Well, not "so low" but... ugh. I know, it's for a decent budget build. Let it go, Chris. Just kills me to see that $100 more could jump TDP from from 47 to 91 Watts with the same fab and double the L3 cache. Also, the 2 extra cores don't hurt! True specifically for gaming it's not always the biggest factor, but just overall performance.

But, I suppose Sarge isn't going to be pushing the PC like some of us do anyway, the i3 should be okay.. I guess... :D

Also, shave a few bucks from the build and spare the CPU cooler. The intel will ship with a sufficient cooler, I really doubt it's going to be pushed to dangerous levels. It's not being overclocked or anything.

Glad to see this is happening!

I'm on a tight budget. When I turn things around and can afford and enthusiast build, I will let you guys go crazy. Until then, I very much appreciate the effort you all have put in to making this work for me.

Believe it or not, the 6th gen i3 is actually more or less superior to a 5th gen i5 most of the time, and can somewhat keep pace with the low-end 5th gen i7 under certain gaming circumstances. Civ has historically been a pretty low requirement game and I'd imagine the newest iteration would not deviate much from its lineage so the new i3 should be perfectly fine for what sarge needs.

Also, since Intel eventually realized that their stock cpu cooler was next to worthless and everybody quickly replaced it, 6th gen intel processors no longer ship with a cooler, just the processor alone, which is why I linked one in my build.

We also need M/KB and that build doesn't have a disc drive which isn't absolutely a necessity, but is Swift buying the normal version of Windows 10 on the USB or an OEM disc for cheaper? The OEM disc is $35 cheaper, but we'll need a disc drive to install it. I could pull one of mine out of my pc just to install the OS I suppose. But if Sarge wants a disc drive it's like $20.

The option to have a disc drive completely depends on whether or not he had old PC games lying around that he might want to try out again or loads of movie discs, otherwise discs are pretty much obsolete and have a much higher chance of getting damaged. @ Sarge, Do you have any old keyboards, mice, or monitors that you could use to hold you over until your eventual upgrade? Because that'll drive the price up a bit if you don't.

I do. Mice and keyboards aren't a problem. I also don't have any old discs to worry about.

I was referencing performance and prices between 6th gen processors, i3 6100 and i5 6600k.

Only the 6th gen k models no longer come with a cooler, the 6100 does include a stock cooler.

So right now it's about $440 before the mail-in rebates including Paragon's card.

I have gone sans disc drive since building my PC in Jan. 2015 and have not ever had a time when I needed one (I installed my OS via USB). I didn't have old games or movies to deal with however, so that made it a non factor for me. Even if you did, I would suggest avoiding a disc drive just to save the money.

Also, an i3 with a stock cooler sounds like it would be fine. Like people have said, in terms of gaming the processor isn't the single most important piece and even less so with Civ I would imagine. Plus, having a stock cooler built into it is just one less thing to worry about. Not overclocking means that a meltdown is very unlikely anyways.
