Civ 6 doesn't release until October so we've got a few months before we pull the trigger on this. And Sarge has to give the OK that he can afford the purchase the stuff.

is an i3 processor enough? I know it's for Civ, but an i3?

Processors are typically less important in terms of gaming iirc. When I built my PC I was deciding between an i5 and an i7, and the difference between those two were stated to be about 2% in terms of gaming. I don't have a source on hand and obviously the difference between an i5 and i7 won't be the same between an i3 and an i5, but you see what I'm getting at. However if it is a concern you could probably avoid the i-series and get a different processor that performs better than an i3 that's still cheaper than an i5. Would have to look into it though.

Reminds me, because you're looking to buy a bit long term, we should look out for sales to see if we could snag stuff at significantly reduced prices. Stuff goes on sale all the time, but not typically everything you need to buy a computer all at once.

Haha sure, except that the end user is Sarge and he 1. Already is very wary of PC's and 2. Is a heavy Windows user. I'd include it as a cost unless Sarge says otherwise

In addition to what's already been said about the sort of irrelevance of the processor for gaming:

For the past two iterations of Civ the recommended processor requirement has been a 1.8ghz quad-core so an i3 should be sufficient unless there's a large jump in requirements.
