Ardmore - Traditional Cask

A very nice smooth full bodied malt with oaky flavours followed by a nice long peaty finish

PS - the reason there is only a small amount in the glass is because this picture was taken early afternoon. We had to try the whisky!

Ok so its Mothers day in England and for a treat i buy mother almighty (aka Joshrothathans mum) a bottle of her favourite whisky, a Glenfarclas 15 year old (she has expensive tastes).

this one has been described by Dave Broom:

as "George Melly in a glass"
Spoiler: show
Lol - This is what this whisky tastes like

Its fruity and has an over the top exuberance with a really strong intense perfume of sherry

The whisky thread

Tue Mar 30, 2010 6:01 am

Quick Question I am a bit of a country fellow, I grew up having fun and acquiring a taste for straight jack, still like it, but lately I've acquired more of a sweet taste.

Anything you could recommend based on what little info I have? I'm not very..'fancy' when it comes to drinking, I must say. Trying out a few new things. ::lol::

how bout a compromise halfway between whisky and sweetness

These are whisky liqueurs

Drambuie is my mums favourite also expensive, but it is yummy.

popular and slightly medicinal try it if you see it in a bar.

Wallace is expensive and probably not to widely available, but if you see it its very nice, a little sweet for my tastes but Josh swears by it.

Also if you like whisky with a sweeter taste rather than whisky liquors try the Penderyn Aur Cymru (previously reviewed on P.4 of the whisky thread.

If you do want a whisky liquor Wallace is the best in my opinion (as Haut so wisely stated) but the Glayva is more readily available

Glen Garioch

Mon Apr 05, 2010 10:15 am

Glen Garioch - courtesy of duty free (comes in litre bottles :D )

Tasting notes - sweet vanilla, butterscotch, fresh green fruits with a citrus cleanliness

I didn't really get too much of the butterscotch but it tasted of all the rest. Quite a nice whisky.

Bunnahabhain

Thu May 06, 2010 10:13 am

Bunnahabhain 12 year old
Single Islay Malt Scotch Whisky

A very lightly-peated malt that serves as perhaps the mildest introduction to the Islay style. Floral and fruity tones dominate with the peat influence in the background.

little gentle for me, but a smooth and crisp whisky great for beginners!

Knob Creek Bourbon

Fri May 14, 2010 8:11 am

Knob Creek Bourbon
9year old 100 proof

In aid of born ive been drinking new American sourced whisky/bourbons when out and about as he cant find any big name scotch brands in dominatesville

Knob Creek Bourbon, bottled at an honest 100 proof (50% abv) like all good bourbons were a century ago, is aged nine years in charred American white oak which lends this bourbon its maple sugar aroma, distinctive sweetness and rich, full-bodied flavour, giving it the distinction of being aged the longest of the small-batch bourbons.

maple/vanilla and a little harsh, not massively impressed , does have a hilarious name though!

Trip out - Scotland

Fri Jun 04, 2010 4:25 pm

So for my birthday Hauts Gf and myself were bought a trip to Scotland.

we went on a tour of a distillery and to a chocolate factory and saw some dolphins (guess which was for me and which was for her ::lol:: )

We took pictures of the scenery which was fantastic but the pics are rubbish.

and the distillery didnt allow cameras but here are a few from the net

if you want to know about how its made i can fill you in we had the whole tour, but its quite boring if you arent a serious whisky buff

also we went to a whisky shop as the ones I wanted to buy based on likes and dislikes didn't sell at the distilleries.

over the next year ill be drinking them, so stay tuned!

only 3 walls pictured the shop had over 750 different whiskys

Cragganmore 12 Year Old

Tue Jun 08, 2010 4:15 am

Cragganmore 12 Year Old
Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky

Guest tester was Hauts Gfs Best mate Caitlin

"The Speyside representative of the Classic Malts series is rich and spicy, with a very satisfying complexity and a well-sherried backbone."

we agree with this and it has a light peatyness, also a woody heathery after-taste

a spey but a different one!

I've found great favor with American Honey. It's Wild Turkey (Careful! That bird will bite!) with a good dose of honey (as per the label- DUH!) and some vanilla. I compare it a bit to Drambuie, but it's not nearly as sweet as say Liquor 43. Plus, it's pretty cheap- about $16.50 where I buy. I prefer it "neat" (no ice) as I think it enhances the flavors and smell. On ice the sweetness really disappears, but it's still there. GREAT FOR SUMMER!
