August 2016 MOTM

The Summer heat can be overwhelming sometimes; so why not take a break from it by reading our refreshing MOTM interviews? In fact, we've got a cool pair right here from our very own Mecha and Muffin!

How and when did you find the site?

Mecha: Autumn 2015, Sarge told me to come here and register after I kept party bombing him and other wheelmen, he kindly directed me to the forums and told me to register.

Muffin: I was part of the Bungie Rush back in Halo 3. You may not believe it, but I was incredibly shy back in the day and I spent a week or so lurking before I finally signed up.

What got you into Halo?

Mecha: My now Brother-In-Law leant me his XBox with Halo 2. I probably played the campaign dozens of times before I finally went online a year before Halo 3 came out.

Muffin: I was once at an after school program at the YMCA, where the staff brought in an Xbox. They started playing Halo and I was captivated for about 3 hours. The staff tried to get me to play, but shy as I was I politely said no. Eventually I got a Xbox 360, and the first game I went to get was the newest Halo, Halo 3.

What's your preferred playstyle?

Mecha: Balance/support. I never like becoming too specialized. I like to try my hand at everything, though it doesn't mean I'll be any good at it!

I like to fill in parties as the role of a Red Mage, (Paragon and Grass know exactly what I mean) and I go wherever the group needs me. I'm not stellar at any one thing in Halo, but I try to help in any squad, mostly Ops.

Muffin: I pride myself on being able to fill any role at any given moment. I also pride myself on being incredibly difficult to kill while still dealing damage. Disrupting the enemy is just such a fun mind game, and that's why I seem to find myself on Assault more than most squads.

Where did your gamertag come from?

Mecha: So, as kids, we sometimes like to imagine ourselves as superheroes or the like. Well, that's exactly where my tag comes from. Even young, I was mishmashing paradoxical concepts it seems. A ninja with a cybernetic attachments, why mecha, it just sounded cooler. Plus missiles, everything is better with missiles.

Muffin: When I signed onto Xbox, I had just came from a summer camp where our running joke was that our cabin was full of "StudMuffin's". So, my first Gamertag was StudMuffin007. Eventually, it just became Muffin.

Any favorite Halo memories?

Mecha: Probably finishing Halo 3 and Reach's campaigns for the first time.

In multiplayer, I recall driving a ghost to a near perfection in Halo 3. Got a vehicular manslaughter and everything! I even got it on video.

Muffin: Many, but here are some clips of 3 favorites

What are your other favorite gaming series?

Mecha: Oh man, I grew up a Nintendo kid. Zelda, Mario, Starfox, Pokemon, Metroid are all ingrained into my history.

Zelda games are where I developed a sense for adventure in my games. Link, being a lefty, was one character I felt some kinship with. Though those games did just repeat the formula for years, I am truly excited for Breath of the Wild.

SMB3 or go home! Its a magical memory of childhood. God bless the hammer suit. Paper Mario was such a wondrous experience also.

Final Fantasy is a more recent obsession I have, just look at all the spriting I've done! FF2 and FF4 are my favorites. A bit derivative, but they're special to me.

Amongst more contemporary games, Magic takes the cake. You can see it in nearly everything I post here. I'm completely fascinated by the game design, mana system, and the story of the multiverse.

Muffin: Halo has had my heart from day 1. There's never really been any other games. I've played other games, but none has had the kind of pull that Halo has had for me. That said, Overwatch has really impressed me, and is a game I find very relaxing.

What is your favorite food?

Mecha: Pizza. More specifically, pepperoni, spinach, and mushrooms, (fight me!)

Muffin: Sniper Rifles. Just keep feeding me.

Tell us something about yourself that we might not know!

Mecha: Well, any of you who've been in parties with me know that I can talk your ear off about any subject that I'm in deep with.

However, I'm a totally quiet in person. It takes a lot for me to feel comfortable with irl randoms. If you've ever played Zelda, Link's Awakening, I'm like grandpa Ulira. I much prefer to communicate over the phone (xbl) than in person.

I also played through Halo 1 on a self challenge on Heroic where if at any time I took health damage, I reverted to last check point.

Muffin: I love to take the game winning shot. I love that pressure, as it always seems to bring the best out of me. When the game is on the line, my mind just seems to go to this place where I process things incredibly fast. I have a clear mental image of what's going to happen, moments before it happens. The feeing is such a rush, and is absolutely my favorite thing about this game.

Any advice for newer members of the community?

Mecha: Don't be afraid to get involved! Don't be afraid to ask for help!

Muffin: Get involved. This community is so special in that there's something for everyone. If you want to drink and run around on a mongoose all game, there are lobbies for that. If you want to competitively play firefight, there are lobbies for that. Our community is so diverse and so balanced beyond just their game preferences, just come in and I'm sure you'll find a home here.

Shoutouts! Who do you guys want to shoutout?

Mecha: Oh man, I could be here forever if I wrote out something for everyone, which I would love to do.

Sarge, for getting me to be brave enough to join a community.

Swift, for all his amazing videos. Your music selection has greatly expanded my tastes buddy!

Cruck and Grass, for being the early wheelmen I've hung around with!

Kitty, for all the artsy conversations we have.

Muffin, Tims, Jon, Tom, for making me aspire to try to become a better halo player.

Mzoga, Mauro, Criporc, the silliest party members for DnD!

Waldebie, Witney, my favorite "w" people! Zany shoutbox associates and partners in warzone!

Brick and Duce for letting me make all those little graphics that have taken over the shoutbox!

Lars and Navi, the best British and German associates! *wink* Waldebie

Muffin: This community has given me so many deep, rich friendships over the years, all of whom I cherish. But none more than Sarge. Sarge has helped me through some of the lowest points in my life. He and I have completely revolutionized the meta off the Halos we've worked together in. My goal is to leave a legacy in this game, and if I do Sarge will be the biggest part in my success.

Tims: That'll do it for this month's interviews, thanks again to Mecha and Muffin for sharing with us! I have to say, after a couple of months of producing these interviews I'm really satisfied with the results and I'm glad that I can provide a way for our members to share more about themselves and for our community to be more in-touch with ourselves. The difference between our community and so many others is that we care about the people we play with outside of the games, and that means so much more. I'm glad to have so many people to put the spotlight on, and we'll be back next month with two more! ::glomp::

I'm so glad we've brought this back, and I'm really enjoying the old and new dynamic that has stuck through the voting process.
