Background:MetaHalo is a new and advanced Halo leaderboards and stats website that is in the early stages of finalization and that is being continually developed in harmony with community input.
The site is the brainchild of Triton (GGN Member), a member of the Bungie.net group Seasoned Veterans. Seasoned Veterans is a collaboration of competitive Halo players who understand the finer intricacies of high-ranked gameplay and who have passionately advocated for various changes in matchmaking to ensure balance and parity. Many members of the group worked together to develop leaderboard and performance formulas that are:
- Predicated more accurately on player skill;
- Based on wins, losses, and individual performances, with proportional weightings for search ranges;
-To provide meaningful feedback to players seeking to improve their performance;
- Less likely to lead to "statistics boosting" or other harmful methods of artificial score inflation;
- 100 percent transparent; and
- Free and accurate.
In order to address the perceived flaws in other Halo leaderboards and stats websites, the ranking formula has been made public so there are no perceived player biases, and the leaderboard formulas have yielded accurate results to date by emphasizing player performance in high-ranked matchmaking scenarios. Please feel free to gauge the accuracy of the aforementioned leaderboards at
MetaHalo.com.
Formula:The primary MetaHalo formula ranks players based on a combination of win percentage and the level at which you are playing. The Formula can be found below, for those interested.
player rating = (average_opponent_level^2 + your_average_level^2) * (1/average_place)For a more detailed explanation of that formula, simply click it to open its thread on the MetaHalo forums.
Another great thing about MetaHalo is that if you believe the formula for ranking players is inaccurate, you can tell the staff at MetaHalo and give suggestions as to how it should be changed in order to make sure it is as accurate as possible.
Formula ForumFeatures:All of MetaHalo's features are free. This means if you want to see any of your stats or where you fall in the leaderboards all you have to do is run the stat collector. Because the stat collector goes through each game any given player has played, MetaHalo is able to rank players much more accurately than other Halo stat websites. Moreover, MetaHalo requires gamertag verification to receive stat collection permissions, preventing people from registering or using gamertags that are not their own.
As of now, MetaHalo.com has four main features: a game finder, leaderboards, user pages and extended playlist stats. None of them are 100% finished, but they still offer advanced and detailed information.
The game finder feature has put players in touch with a quick reference point for any game played in their Halo tenure, sortable by virtually any category or filter.
User pages have interactive rank and high skill history charts and detailed playlist breakdowns that show things such as time played, games played, high skill, current skill, K/D ratio, DNFs and various other stats. If that's not enough, you can view extended playlist stats by simply clicking on the playlist name, which will allow you to filter stats for that playlist by skill level, military rank, map and team.
Community:MetaHalo has forums where you can discuss and voice your opinion openly about what you think of the site. Most of the forums currently deal with certain features of the site and it is a fairly basic setup as the site is still in its early phases. Eventually custom forum software will be written, but for now SMF is being used to allow Triton to focus on features of the main site.
MetaHalo ForumsForthcoming Improvements:The site has already received a well-deserved graphics facelift by Smyf. Additional changes for site design will be implemented in the near future.
Some planned (and in development) features include a powerful groups system,
the ability to link several of your gamertags together to see your true lifetime stats, a signature builder and a custom stat builder, among many others. The groups feature will be of interest to teams because it will actually find all the games you've played with members of that group and will then create stats from them. As a basic example, you could see how many wins and losses your MLG team has in the MLG playlist without figuring in statistics from games in this same playlist with other players or alone. It will also do totals and averages, much like HaloCharts.
Thanks and enjoy MetaHalo.com.
