Embed youtube links from the share link

Allow users to embed a video onto the forums page or shoutbox by using the shared link and not the bbcode.

There is a very nice extension that does this for the forums, but it won't work with the shoutbox without some modifications. I'll look into it, but it's lower priority since the bbcodes do the job alright.

Example if I paste this shared link https://youtu.be/buHICI-JKyc from youtube the forum will automatically embed it showing the video thumbnail to play. This will eliminate me from coping the videos code buHICI-JKyc then selecting use bbcode ytshout.

... I don't know of anywhere that does that using that link. Some times recognise the embed code of a video which looks like this

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Jc09rtFWYms" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And will automatically embed it. But even if you did that you'd still need to use the bbcode to put the video into a spoiler tag because otherwise users who can't handle lots of embedded videos or graphics will have trouble loading the page.

I don't understand how someone would have trouble loading a forum page when the average speed of the internet now a days is 12-20MBps. Several years ago that may be the problem. Also, the videos are just a thumbnail and the spoiler tag is time consuming clicking on each one just to see a video.

Cri only recently was able to get a machine capable of loading the pages that had lots of gifs, or images or videos not in spoiler tags. Some people view from mobiles that aren't the latest gen smartphones. Others use outdated machines rather than dropping the money it costs for a new one.

Also in general it's just friggin' annoying having to scroll down half a mile past embed youtube videos when they could be in a spoiler. It's general forum etiquette that those who have been using forums for years are used to. It's thoughtful to the inconvenience you could be causing others. Easier to click a spoiler tag if you want to see the video rather than shoving the video in everyone's face and telling them if you don't want to see it you have to keep scrolling down til you can reply.

I think you're in the "unpopular opinion" camp when it comes to the "Clicking a spoiler tag is time consuming so i'd rather have to scroll for 10 minutes to get to the bottom of the page"

I typically browse from my tablet or phone. I cannot open pages on the site with lots of videos even when they're in spoilers after a certain point.

So, I just end up not engaging with the content at all.

It's about keeping the forum clean and uniformed and just not cluttered so everything looks nice and runs smoothly as well.

I think that app would make embedding a few steps easier but probably nothing else. Spoiler tags for alot of embedds are a must. for the general internetspeed I for example live on the countryside and 2 years ago I upgraded from 1mb/s DL to like 6mb/s DL , just saying.
If you want to test the loading time , my thread in the member vids section has a shitload of videos in spoilers
